Hey guys, I've not used mailing lists much in the past, and this is the first one i've used that has been this busy. After having been subscribed to the list for about a month now (and even on digest mode) i've been having my inbox crammed with list emails. Many of the threads are informative and interesting, but some are not at all relevant to me. This has led me to wonder, what is the reason behind using a list like this in preference to a more structured forum? The separation, better search facilities, greater granularity in subscriptions, etc all sound like compelling reasons for a switch to my mind. I presume, however, that there is a reason for sticking with mailman and i'm interested to discover what that is. Regards, Ben Langfeld Wave > Email
It's been brought up before. I don't recall exactly all the +/- discussed but there are some alternatives for the user depending on their preference. Digest can get a bit annoying in high volume. The list is archived in various places (Gmane.org,nabble.com) Nabble does provide a forum style interface to the current list if you rather follow it that way. http://n2.nabble.com/freeswitch-users-f2379917.html "This forum is an archive for the mailing list: * freeswitch-users@lists.freeswitch.org* (more options<http://n2.nabble.com/mailing_list/MailingListOptions.jtp?forum=2379917>) Messages posted here will be sent to this mailing list." -- W
There *IS* a forum. A volunteer set it up a few years ago and promised to maintain it. The fact that you can't find it is proof positive that a forum just isn't the best choice for this particular online community. I'd say the nabble site is your best option. -MC Sent from my iPhone On Mar 27, 2010, at 4:51 AM, William Suffill <william.suffill@gmail.com> wrote:

Warning: Mild Troll forums are for wimps. real men use mailing lists. Jokes aside, mailing lists are much better because all your interests are centralized around your mail clients. When you subscribe to different forums or mailing lists, you always have to be flitting around from forum to forum to see if you've had responses. When I use forums I tend to lose track of the enquires I have made. Web browsing can be a great source of distraction, the urge to click here and click there can be strong, with adverts and a some other thingies vying to attract your atttention. With mailing lists you only have to hear the sound of email delivery, look at the mail header and decide whether to get back to work or attend to it. When you visit a web page to look at a forum, you usually make a few more clicks which are not related to your tasks. It is only recently that I have focused on the idea of receiving emails whenever a forum thread I am involved in receives a post that forums have become more effective for me, which only shows how more effective emails are. As some one said, set up your mail client to filter on threads you post in and you should be okay. I haven't made any queries on Freeswitch mailing lists for while, but just by using email, I have noticed this thread and been able to post to it. Mailing lists also mean that you are more likely to notice others questions early and help with them even if you don't visit the forums that much, and also know more of what is going on.
