I've not used mailing lists much in the past, and this is the first one i've used that has been this busy. After having been subscribed to the list for about a month now (and even on digest mode) i've been having my inbox crammed with list emails. Many of the threads are informative and interesting, but some are not at all relevant to me. This has led me to wonder, what is the reason behind using a list like this in preference to a more structured forum? The separation, better search facilities, greater granularity in subscriptions, etc all sound like compelling reasons for a switch to my mind. I presume, however, that there is a reason for sticking with mailman and i'm interested to discover what that is.
