Re: [Freeswitch-users] freeswitch to cisco gateway
Also Reddy, FS is protected (correct me if I'm wrong) under MPL licence http://www.mozilla.org/MPL/MPL-1.1.html in the article 3, paragraph 2: 3.2. Availability of Source Code. Any Modification which You create or to which You contribute must be made available in Source Code form under the terms of this License either on the same media as an Executable version or via an accepted Electronic Distribution Mechanism to anyone to whom you made an Executable version available; and if made available via Electronic Distribution Mechanism, must remain available for at least twelve (12) months after the date it initially became available, or at least six (6) months after a subsequent version of that particular Modification has been made available to such recipients. You are responsible for ensuring that the Source Code version remains available even if the Electronic Distribution Mechanism is maintained by a third party. so my opinion is you are infringing the Licence Regards Franck ----- Original Message ----- From: Madovsky To: freeswitch-users@lists.freeswitch.org Sent: Tuesday, March 16, 2010 12:00 PM Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] freeswitch to cisco gateway so share your customized version to the community and maybe we ll be glad to help you.... this is the principle of open source ----- Original Message ----- From: srinivasula reddy To: freeswitch-users Sent: Tuesday, March 16, 2010 11:49 AM Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] freeswitch to cisco gateway we started customizing Freeswitch1.0.2 2yrs back, so now we are unable to use new versions. srinivas On Mon, Mar 15, 2010 at 9:06 PM, srinivasula reddy <srinivas.ksvreddy@gmail.com> wrote: Hi, i am using freeswitch1.0.2, farwarding call from freeswitch to cisco like just farwading the call. <action application="bridge" data=sofia/internal/${destination_number}@ciscogatewayip/> i do not using any gateway here, just farwarding call to router, is this correct way of doing? any idea -- Srinivasula Reddy K -- Srinivasula Reddy K ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- _______________________________________________ FreeSWITCH-users mailing list FreeSWITCH-users@lists.freeswitch.org http://lists.freeswitch.org/mailman/listinfo/freeswitch-users UNSUBSCRIBE:http://lists.freeswitch.org/mailman/options/freeswitch-users http://www.freeswitch.org
Im not on the FS dev team, but I think you may be a little mistaken. generally your free to make modifications to open source code ( for internal use ) however its when you distribute the resultant product, then you have to make the source available.. if your only using it in-house, I dont believe your required to contribute the code back. ( however your going to end up having issues maintaining your patch set over a long period.. like can be seen here ) see here :
must be made available in Source Code form under the terms of this License either on the same media as an Executable version
if your not distributing your executable to any 3rd parties... then I dont believe you have to distribute the modified source.. Correct me if Im wrong though guys... Jay
This is where it gets hairy... Yes the MPL says you have to share your modifications with the original author but as far as I can tell you don't have to distribute to cause this clause to go into effect. Its like this: You change switch_ivr_originate.c, you HAVE to share those changes with Anthony. You create your own mod_kewlshit.c, its yours to do with what you want and you don't have to share. You change any code that is included with the download YOU MUST share with the original author. /b On Mar 16, 2010, at 11:30 PM, jay binks wrote:

We don't really care what he does with the code. But if he expects us to help him with a forked tree, it's not going to happen. We expect people who make any meaningful changes to the FS core to be wise enough to work with us to keep the code in tree so the community can continue to maintain it and so it can grow with the rest of the project. The GPL license is a whole different topic I will avoid at the moment. On Wed, Mar 17, 2010 at 10:05 AM, Madovsky <infos@madovsky.org> wrote:

Long story short: the FS devs wanted a different kind of freedom than that which is offered by the GPL. The GPL is "viral" in that it forces everything it touches to by GPL-compatible. This kind of force-fed freedom doesn't always fit well with software that is technically a library (libfreeswitch) that can be compiled/embedded in other projects.
Bottom line: no OSS license can be all things to all projects. Tony chose the best one available for his specific project. -MC
