Skype is likely to stop supporting desktop API by Dec. 2013
Here is the link: http://www.engadget.com/2013/11/02/skype-killing-old-api/?ncid=rss_truncated I don't know if this mean that we'll no longer be able to interconnect with Skype anymore. And I just want to share the news with this community. Henry
Wouldn't surpirse me. They have a SIP product that they charge per-channel on now. On 4 November 2013 08:57, Henry Huang <red.rain.seven@gmail.com> wrote:

What I've read is that MS bought Skype with government money ( way beyond the value of the company) so that interception would be easier. I've always assumed that the spooks that set up Google still work for the same people. The question is if the changes are at the request of the spooks or for market reasons? My hunch is it is a combination of both. What should concern people here is if they pull the plug on SIP due to some black-flag 'crisis'. -- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Karl Schmidt EMail Karl@xtronics.com Transtronics, Inc. Guys, does anyone have info about 'skype 2.0.0.72 static' which is used in skypopen module, will it survive the next month? Is it possible that the API will be disabled in recent skype versions, but this version won't lose ability to communicate via API? Thanks, Arsen. The API is a feature of the client. It'll continue to work for as long as you continue to use the older client version. What remains to be seen is whether they'll block older client versions from connecting. On 6 November 2013 10:17, Arsen <arsen.semionov@gmail.com> wrote:

I agree with Steven. My take on this is: - the future new versions of the Skype client will not have the feature of being "remote controllable" via the API * On Linux we use an old version, actually more than 4 years old, and there is not a way to force an update of it (it is "manually" downloaded and then installed as binary .tgz by the install.pl script). * On Windows, if users have installed an autoupdating version of Skype client, then maybe the update can be forced. For what is my understanding and feeling, skype module is used almost only on Linux. So, I believe this will have no impact on Freeswitch. Only thing that can impact the module on Linux is if Skype will change basic protocol (basic voice and IM features) or encoding. -giovanni On Wed, Nov 6, 2013 at 1:30 PM, Steven Ayre <steveayre@gmail.com> wrote:
