G722 can be a native bearer capability on an ISDN b-channel but thats not widely used. MP2 in your case is just establishing a data channel be it via ISDN or IP. Before proceeding I would seek out a license compatible encoder/decoder library that can be used, MP2 can mean so many things their are multiple levels, options and details required to properly implement it. There are ISDN devices which establish a digital (data) ISDN connection and then use all kinds of codecs on top of that. Think FreeTDM with G722 - same thing. As far as I know FreeTDM doesn't care which codec you choose for a digital connection. G722 is just the most common use case.
MP2 is still a widely used standard in broadcast, i.e. for remote contributions.
