as soon as you execute the app then the channel variable is set. Are you not seeing that happen? no the var is empty, nevermind as you said I can set it in the dialplan, but the logical will be less accurate.

I'm pretty sure that "inline" does not apply here as that is a dialplan convention. IIRC, as soon as you execute the app then the channel variable is set. Are you not seeing that happen?
