Try dumping the channel variables in a few different places in the dialplan (execute application "info"). And see what's going on. The only thing that should be able to override max_forwards is if there's lots of reinvites going on (it's set from the SIP-attribute "Max-Forwards"). Set the channel variable "max_forwards" to a higher value, it should do the trick.
The variable don.t working.
