However, I think that unless there's a way to grant that permission inside the service installation code ("freeswitch -install") then the service should be configured to run as local system account. One issue with the service is we have no console to dump errors too, it sounds like it is failing one of the startup requirements like config files being there. Are you able to start it in non service mode? If so, check permissions on the freeswitch dir that the user running the service has permissions to that dir.

This failure occurred on multiple Windows XP servers.
Why does it fail and why does it not use the local system account like almost all services?
