Whichever approach you take you should be covered with mod_portaudio (home runs to a central freeswitch or RPis which talk to a central FS via SIP). The features listed are doable, but will require some integration to tie it all together. On 6 October 2014 04:02, Will Stewart <will.stewart1a@gmail.com> wrote:
There are two architectural alternatives I'm looking at;
1. Home runs of speakerwire direct to speaker, or line level embedded amps, or 2. Ethernet or wireless to RPis which then drive the amps/speakers
#1 is the simplest, though doesn't cover use cases C and D below, at least with standard high impedance microphones. Low impedance mikes may, though are not inexpensive and require special interfacing.
#2 is far more capable, and allows far more home automation and security (e.g., attached webcam with video analytics on a central server)
A. Whole house audio: home runs from a central patch panel are acceptable B. Play wake up sounds (surf, jungle, etc) in individual bedrooms C. Whole house intercom (controls could vary, call could even be placed on a smartphone) D. Voice recognition to drive home automation (future)

Take a look at mod_portaudio. It should handle the first scenario with a little scripting (lua/perl/etc.) I'm not sure about the other two, are we talking about sip phones/devices or an analog paging/intercom system (like the first one)?

Not sure the first, but the rest 2 are doable, check mod_esf maybe?

I'm interested in Freeswitch because I'd like to incorporate the following into my home automation system;
- Whole house audio: home runs from a central patch panel are acceptable - Play wake up sounds (surf, jungle, etc) in individual bedrooms - Whole house intercom
Is anyone doing some or all of the above with Freeswitch? If not, is it possible/practical?
Thanks,
Will
