No that¹s not what he¹s getting at... FreeSWITCH is MPL licensed... The MPL is not compatible with the MPL due to the viral nature of the GPL (if you combine GPL software with a non-GPL licensed software, the resultant software package must be GPL)... There was an exception offered to address this, but it would have required anyone using it to pay for a commercial license even tho the FS devs would have wanted the resultant module to be Open Source On 2/7/14 12:09 PM, "Vik Killa" <vipkilla@gmail.com> wrote:

I just read that, two licenses. So people who do not want to release their source code have to pay for the proprietary license.

We had a pjsip module before we had the sofia module in the early days but the licensing is prohibitive and we ran into some stability problems.
Its GPL, we had the option for an exception but it made everyone who used it have to pay a commercial license.

Anyone know how pjsip compares to sofia in terms of performance and stability? I know FS devs have invested time and code into the sofia-lib, but is there any discussion of using pjsip in future?

I've actually lost track of Asterisk performance so I am not sure what it is now and what it may be able to improve to.
I'd say It will probably have a bigger impact on stability than it does on performance. The SIP stack does account for some of the performance but you will still have the same RTP, transcoding and other components.

Asterisk 12 has added a new sip driver using pjsip. I remember reading about the discussion why FreeSWITCH chose to use sofia instead of other sip stacks, but I can't find it anymore.
So my question is, do you guys think Asterisk will be able to boost their performance by swapping out their sip core to use pjsip and be somewhat on par with FreeSWITCH performance wise?
Thanks,
Henry
