      Commenting to my own comment - I'm not sure of the provenance of this bit:
...
text = {}
....
...
function WriteMemoryCallback(userparam,s)
      if s then
              text[#text+1] = s
              return string.len(s)
      else
              return 0
      end
end
My experience of Lua is very limited - what does this line do?

text[#text+1]

Is it "safe" or is this likely to cause trouble if the string is long?
