Fedora has most of the libraries and programs used by freeswitch. Can I use the system ones or do I need to use the ones at files.freeswitch.org? I understand they are needed on windows for compilation reasons, but I am interested in Linux.
No, you cannot use the system one. FS developers had chosen a set of revision of libraries (and often patched them), so to be sure to have a sane platform, and not to depend on the particular distro packages. The FS build system automagically builds and uses its own libs, that do not interfere with the rest of the system. In short: no. -gm
