FreeSWITCH behaviour is the same as Asterisk's:


   freeswitch -u <USER>  =>  Run as <USER> using that user's primary group and supplemental groups


   freeswitch -u <USER> -g <GROUP>   => Run as <USER> and <GROUP>, not using any supplemental groups


so you might want to check what the init script is doing

(to get the list of groups ids of the running process:  grep Groups: /proc/`pidof freeswitch`/status)
