I did get this working by changing the owner of the device to freeswitch.
This does not make sense as asterisk was able to access the device by being a member of the dialout
group.
I'm wondering if this is a problem in freetdm ?
$ grep dial /etc/group
dialout:x:20:asterisk,nut,freeswitch
/dev/dahdi# ll
