Well wouldn't the same idea work? Tell it not to build in parallel and/or set affinity depending on the bug?

I think the multi-proc is only an issue while building.

If it's just a multi-proc issue (is there a bug link that describes it?), then just set the CPU affinity for the FS process to a single processor. No need to switch hardware.
