mono isn't a language it's an open source .NET subsystem that ties a bunch
of languages into FreeSWITCH which was recently added to tree. 
I think Java is second on the list from this page of supported languages:

You could probably add Native Java as well if they let you do
embeded runtime and permit external modules made from C code.

Java is way faster than ruby, python, javascript, etc. It's faster than mono
too and almost at par w/ C++! I don't know how you came up with "slow"!

With all this activity on alternative languages - is it possible to
integrate with java? I realize it may be slow but some of us don't really
need to build high end systems..
