[Freeswitch-users] G729

Just thinking ahead here, and I’m not ready for it yet but any idea how much of a bounty someone would do it for? I have no idea on how much time is involved.

If you can’t answer that I understand.

Andre

There's nothing that would prevent it working, just development time.

The module runs a server process to authenticate the licenses. That would require porting to other platforms (eg Windows). While that's possible I don't think the expected income vs the cost of that development work makes it worth porting at the moment, but I'm sure if there were a big need for Windows support a bounty could be agreed.

The module and license server are not open source, for obvious reasons, so only the core developers would be able to do the porting work.

True, We already have a Debian vm ready. Just planning ahead.

Just wondering what makes it now work on windows?

Thanks again,

Andre

It's $10/channel, but that's correct. If the server is only running FreeSWITCH you could always install Debian though?

So for windows one would have to buy the Sangoma and not the license for 20$ a channel ?

For Windows Users there are Sangoma stand-alone boxes that do transcoding over the network. This has the advantage that one box can transcode for many FS servers.

Hello, is the transcoding G729 codec still Linux-only?

It does have G729 support. Which module you use depends on whether you need transcoding.

Use mod_g729 if you don't need transcoding (passing the encoded audio straight through, both phones speak G729).

Use mod_com_g729 if you need transcoding (one phone won't speak G729, or you need to read/generate audio on the server, eg for IVR). Licenses are $10/channel, from www.freeswitch.org <http://www.freeswitch.org>

https://confluence.freeswitch.org/display/FREESWITCH/mod_com_g729

(There's also support for a Sangoma card that performs the transcoding in hardware)
