So for windows one would have to buy the Sangoma and not the license for 20$
a channel ?

For Windows Users there are Sangoma stand-alone boxes that do transcoding
over the network. This has the advantage that one box can transcode for
many FS servers.

Hello, is the transcoding G729 codec still Linux-only?

Thanks,

It does have G729 support. Which module you use depends on whether you need
transcoding.

Use mod_g729 if you don't need transcoding (passing the encoded audio
straight through, both phones speak G729).

Use mod_com_g729 if you need transcoding (one phone won't speak G729, or you
need to read/generate audio on the server, eg for IVR). Licenses are
$10/channel, from www.freeswitch.org <http://www.freeswitch.org>

https://confluence.freeswitch.org/display/FREESWITCH/mod_com_g729

(There's also support for a Sangoma card that performs the transcoding in
hardware)
