And authentication is something you probably don't want to allow people to
get away with implementing incorrectly.

If you make changes to code that allows them to get away with that in the
worst case you may be introducing a vulnerability. Nonces and proper
handling of are important to prevent replay attacks. I'm not saying
allowing this would, just worst case. Better to stick to how the standard
says authentication should work.
