[Freeswitch-users] Running FS on a heavy loaded VMWare host

Along those line... there are different use-cases for virtualization. If
the idea is just partitioning of physical resources, virtualization
technology has come pretty close to real hardware in terms of performance.
However if one uses it in the VPS sense where you live with the notion that
not everybody needs resources simultaneously at the same time, in average
case, but worst-cases can (and do) happen from time to time, then it may be
a tough call. Most virtualization technologies these days come with an
option to lock-down physical resources to VM instances, and operate with
minimum guarantees. Since people seem to be running FS also on embedded
processors with tiny bit of RAM (like in case of OpenWRT based routers), so
I am guessing in cases where CPU-intensive media-processing isn't
happening, CPU and memory are unlikely to be the bottlenecks... I/O could
however be quite another thing.
