just because it works with ${some_software}, thats not proof that it is
right...

As a developer I can tell you we often break the rules to get ${device} to
work because there is a big need to make it work even tho ${device} is
clearly broken and doesn't function the way it should... Sonus is a great
example of this (just google around and you'll find all sorts of issues
related to this)
