Basically, i am am a graduate electronic engineer. Can i be a successful developer of freeswitch? 
Absolutely.
 

Its my first experience of any telephonic system.
Be prepared to read a lot, and then ask questions. 
When you get an answer,  do document it for others on the wiki.
