mod_skypopen skype client stability
Hi Freeswitchers, Does somebody have experience with running multiple skype interfaces with the same user id and skype version 4.x? Is it stable? We faced a skype crash issue under CentOS 6.4 and skype 2.0.0.72 static oss (provided by interactive installer), so we switched to Ubuntu 12.10 with improved memory and CPU configuration, but unfortunatelly skype interfaces keep crashing unexpectedly. We are using shell script which checks failed skype interfaces and remove them (sk remove) from the skypopen, then start the skype and sk reload, but sometimes it causes freeswitch to segfault :/ Any ideas are very welcome. FreeSWITCH Version 1.5.3b+git~20130705T151245Z~9202f0398f (git 9202f03 2013-07-05 15:12:45Z) skype 2.0.0.72 oss Thanks, Arsen.
I've not personally seen this, but I've only used Debian 6/64bit with 5 or 6 skype clients. If you can collect the details and open a Jira ticket then the devs will take a look. If you have any questions about how to gather the data be sure to check out this page<http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Reporting_Bugs> . Arsen: 1) from what you write, I understand you have a problem with Skype itself (clients repetedly crashing). Correct? 2) what hardware/config are you using? 3) are you using the skypopen.ko OSS driver? I never experienced that problems of repeated clients' crashes, they are pretty stable for me. My platform of choice (both deployment and development) is Debian 6 server 64 bit at moment. -giovanni -- Sincerely, Giovanni Maruzzelli Cell : +39-347-2665618
Hi Giovanni, Thank you for your response 1) Yes, it is correct, skype instances repeatedly crashing. 2) You can find more information about the configuration we use in this ticket: http://jira.freeswitch.org/browse/FS-5591 It is a bit "beefier" mashine especially for skypopen (>20 instances) usage. 3) Yes we use skypopen.ko, everything is installed as per manual. The only things I changed: 1)skypopen.h #define MAX_CHATS 128 2)mod_skypoepn.c patch is attached. It is small fix which returns "skypopen api call" response to the stream. We use it to get user presence status via skypopen. I am not sure if it can affect skype stability.... Thank you! Arsen. On 12 July 2013 16:31, Giovanni Maruzzelli <gmaruzz@gmail.com> wrote:

Skype instances crashing is not caused by mod_skypopen. I would counsel you not to use Quantal for stability (they got lot of new thingies in the Xwindow dept, and other subsystem). Use Debian 6 64 bit server if you can.
The only things I changed:
1)skypopen.h #define MAX_CHATS 128
2)mod_skypoepn.c patch is attached. It is small fix which returns "skypopen api call" response to the stream. We use it to get user presence status via skypopen.
If you're interested in having that patch into mainline, please open a Jira issue for new feature and attach the patch. I'll look into integrating it. Thanks to you, -giovanni -- Sincerely, Giovanni Maruzzelli Cell : +39-347-2665618
