It seems like Freeswitch is a real player in the PC based PBX space. I think the first product in this space that can emulate a key system will take over the space in very short time. Metaswitch, Broadsoft, etc have shared line appearances but none of the smaller systems have it. It must be hard to do, or everyone would be doing it. If Freeswitch could offer the kind of functionality it would take over: A call would come in, via SIP, Zaptel, etc. User answers the call User puts it on hold That line appearance blinks on all the phones Any user presses the button to get the call It would be OK if it only worked with Polycom, or Linksys, or Snom,etc...as long as it worked _every_ time. -Matt
At least for Snom phones that is possible ( and used daily with FS at my office ). In the sample dialplan is a setting for Snom's Park+Orbit button option. If you set the same Park+Orbit # on a button on all the phones you can push the button when in a call, the call is parked and the light on that phone and all the others with the same setting start blinking. Any of the phones can push the blinking button and pick up the call. Brian On Friday 20 June 2008 2:11:27 am Matt Darnell wrote:

Brian, I have set up some Snom phones and programmed one button on each for type 'park orbit' & number '5900'. I have more buttons with type 'park orbit' & the number 5901, 5902 etc. I see that 5901 is explicitly mentioned in the config as the unpark code, so orbit 1, 2, 3, etc might not be correct. It might be FIFO of the parked calls. If a call comes to a phone and I press the 5900 button, all the 5900 buttons will flash, but if I press the flashing button the light goes out but nothing else. I can dial 5901 to get the call or set up a button as a speed dial to 5901 to get the call but I am trying to emulate the functionality that you describe. Caller presses the park button, the light next to park 1 blinks, caller gets another call and presses park again, the light next to park 2 lights, etc. Press any flashing light to get the call. Can you give me any more tips of how you got it working? It doesn't look like I need to uncomment anything in the config file. Thanks! -Matt
its 'park+5900' not just '5900' /b On Jun 23, 2008, at 3:52 PM, Matt Darnell wrote:

I have this rockin' & it is working well. The issue is when the caller is parked and then they hang up, the park indicator stays on and park doesn't work right until you reboot the phone. When you press the flashing park button on one of the phones, the light goes out, but the buttons don't work until a reboot. Anyone else have that issue? -Matt

I don't have that issue Matt. I did a couple of test calls earlier today to verify. My calls hit an Asterisk server running Digium T1 cards and then are sent over to my FS box ( which the phones are all registered to ). Brian

I am testing with intercom calls, not with outside calls. I will set up a SIP account with a provider and test again. -Matt

Its a matter of nobody can agree on how to do it.

This already works with Snom. Not sure about how pickup could work on Linksys, Polycom and Aastra but I suspect it wouldn't differ much. The concepts are there and the raw functionality is there. The concept of SLA/BLA can be emulated and works great.
It would be OK if it only worked with Polycom, or Linksys, or Snom,etc...as long as it worked _every_ time.

Brian, Once I get the parking down I will tackle the SLA. Thanks for your help. -Matt
