Any idea what this means: 2008-05-05 09:01:44 [CRIT] switch_time.c:351 softtimer_runtime() Forward Clock Skew Detected! It is a test box that I installed with RC3 and don't have anything on it right now. The clock appears to have the correct time. I know what skew means, but what does it mean in terms of freeswitch? What is it skewing from?

I got also clock skew detections on WinXP. Forward clock skew detected means that the current timestamp is much more later than expected, i. e. 1000 STEP_MIC or 1 ms too late (if I understand the sources right) . are you getting the message regularly or just occasionally? If it is a persistent problem for you the monotonic timer on your system may not work properly. You can edit /usr/local/freeswitch/conf/autoload_configs/switch.conf.xml and add this param: <param name="disable-monotonic-timing" value="true"/> This will disable the monotonic clock support and probably remove the warning. 2008/5/6 Peder @ NetworkOblivion <peder@networkoblivion.com>:

It is semi regular. The server is pretty old, probably 5-6 years, so it could be that the timer chip is croaking. What are the implications of disabling monotonic timing? the only big thing you will lose is that say someone changed the system time while FS is running, with the monotonic support on FS will continue to show the accurate time despite what the new system time says. do you have something that sets your clock for you running? like a network sync. It's possible monotonic is already disabled because its not supported so you are falling prey to the system clock changing. On Tue, May 6, 2008 at 12:56 PM, Peder @ NetworkOblivion < peder@networkoblivion.com> wrote:

Yeah, ntpd. So it sounds like ntpd is changing the clock by a little bit and FS is noticing it as a big skew. So I guess I need to disable ntpd. Anthony Minessale wrote:

Is your system by any chance an Athlon XP system? Do you have spread-spectrum enabled in the bios? These are problems I had historically with clock instability, might be worth a check. -Yossi Peder @ NetworkOblivion wrote:
Yeah, ntpd. So it sounds like ntpd is changing the clock by a little bit and FS is noticing it as a big skew. So I guess I need to disable ntpd.

do you have something that sets your clock for you running? like a network sync. It's possible monotonic is already disabled because its not supported so you are falling prey to the system clock changing.
