Dear, I am looking for a .so to have g729 (transcoding) in freeswitch as free. There are some docs linked to asterisk.hosting.lv where good place to get codec_g729.so for asterisk, not for freeswitch. for example: http://www.opentelecoms.org/codecs-open-source-g729-g723.1-asterisk but it does not work with freeswitch, ( a lot of undefined symbols ...). Could you please let me know if any free mod_g729.so is available. Best --
unfortunately g729 requires patent licensing in pretty much every country. The patent holders do not provide for free use in most situations, regardless if you can find code, it simply is not free. We do provide a low cost option of g729 licensing at $10 a channel (https://billing.freeswitch.org/cart.php?a=confproduct&i=0) , however we can not provide any help on this mailing list at attempts to evade paying for patent fees. If you need just a few licenses, the $10 per channel is not going to set you back much at all. If you need large numbers of licenses, you can get something like a Digium TCE400B transcoding board for less than $900 which will give you 120 channels of G729 and offload your CPU at the same time. This works out to less than $7,50 per channel. Guillermo Sent from my iPhone

Here we mainly use Sangoma transcoding cards when needed. Those work flawlessly with FreeSWITCH, of course! François. On Tue, 2014-06-10 at 08:25 -0700, Guillermo Ruiz Camauer wrote:

Sangoma cards are great too. There are some models that you can even share the resource between different physical servers. They are real time translation though, which means that if you want to transcode recorded files, it takes the same amount of time per file as the recorded length. That is, it takes 3 minutes to transcode a 3 minute recording. The Digium cards will transcode that same file in one second. If you don't need to transcode recorded files, the Sangomas are great.
