Hi. I am having a problem where -- to certain numbers, fsw hangs up after 5 minutes. Now this is suspiciously like a comfort noise problem, but I have no idea how to make fsw generate this, or can I? With asterisk, it does work using some providers, but fsw did not work with the same provider, so I am kind of stuck here. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. -- Your life is like a penny. Is it 5 minutes to the tee? I would do a packet capture and see what is happening with your signalling. Sounds too short to be a re-INVITE but who knows what your provider is doing. Get yourself tcpdump and wireshark then run the following from the FS box: tcpdump -s 0 port 5060 and udp -w /tmp/capture.pcap Not sure if I'm mistaken but the sip callid should be the UUID that FS generates. You can filter in wireshark on that and see the transactions between FS and your provider. Look for repeats of BYE and ACK. Anthony C On Fri, 2010-09-17 at 11:04 -0400, covici@ccs.covici.com wrote:

I'm sorry that will probably be 5080 (external profile... ooops) On Fri, 2010-09-17 at 11:22 -0400, Anthony Cosgrove wrote:

How about if I do a siptrace on -- would that do? The hangup cause just said NORMAL_CLEARING and it was certainly about 5 minutes and it happened twice, so this was suspicious to me. It seems to happen only with some termination carriers. I have tcpdump, but never used wireshark -- if I have to do this is tcpdump sufficient? Anthony Cosgrove <acosgrov@gmail.com> wrote:

You can do siptrace too but it is nice to have it in a file that you can open on a whim in wireshark (presentation is also easier on the eyes). Either way it's up to you on how you want to get the sip trace. If you use siptrace please use pastebin. Anthony C On Fri, 2010-09-17 at 13:45 -0400, covici@ccs.covici.com wrote:

OK, I will do something, but my provider did tell me that this was the cause of the hangup -- comfort noise or rather lack thereof. Is there any way to get fs to generate such -- I did see cng packets 15 at the end of the call. Anthony Cosgrove <acosgrov@gmail.com> wrote:

Ahh ok this makes more sense. Your provider is probably terminating the call due to lack of RTP packets. You will need to configure your endpoint(s) to generate the cng. Most likely what is happening is that your endpoint(s) are configured to not transmit silence so there's no RTP data for that period. 5 minutes and you're out. But if I use asterisk with the same endpoint -- which has no configuration for cng setting -- it works whereas with fsw it does not -- this is the purpose of my inquiry. Anthony Cosgrove <acosgrov@gmail.com> wrote:

Asterisk is not capable of async RTP and CNG so it's lack of functionality is a feature in your case and it's probably the same platform your provider is using. Sending RTP for no reason when you are not talking is somewhat silly right? Are you actually remaining silent for that period of 5 min? which is foolish. a provider does not deserve to be in business if they cannot properly provide the service using the correct tool, sip session timers.....
media timeouts are horrible and should only be used as a last resort and be set to like 5 hours if anything.

OK, I will do something, but my provider did tell me that this was the cause of the hangup -- comfort noise or rather lack thereof. Is there any way to get fs to generate such -- I did see cng packets 15 at the end of the call.

Tcpdump and wireshark use the same file format - pcap. A capture in one can be read in the other. Siptrace will likely also w Steve on iPhone On 17 Sep 2010, at 18:45, covici@ccs.covici.com wrote:
How about if I do a siptrace on -- would that do? The hangup cause just said NORMAL_CLEARING and it was certainly about 5 minutes and it happened twice, so this was suspicious to me. It seems to happen only with some termination carriers.
I have tcpdump, but never used wireshark -- if I have to do this is tcpdump sufficient?
Anthony Cosgrove <acosgrov@gmail.com> wrote:
Is it 5 minutes to the tee? I would do a packet capture and see what is happening with your signalling. Sounds too short to be a re-INVITE but who knows what your provider is doing. Get yourself tcpdump and wireshark then run the following from the FS box:
tcpdump -s 0 port 5060 and udp -w /tmp/capture.pcap
Not sure if I'm mistaken but the sip callid should be the UUID that FS generates. You can filter in wireshark on that and see the transactions between FS and your provider. Look for repeats of BYE and ACK.
