Peter Olsson announces mod_v8 on today's call (1800 UTC)
We'll be having Peter Olsson join us on today's conference call at 1800 UTC (which you can reach at sip:888@conference.freeswitch.org or http://conference.freeswitch.org/). He'll be talking about his new module, mod_v8, which is intended to replace mod_spidermonkey. This is exciting as the V8 Javascript engine is the clear way forward for supporting Javascript in FreeSWITCH. V8 has significant performance improvements, has an active upstream, and underlies other major projects like Node.js. Join us if you can to learn about this new addition to FreeSWITCH. We're making some changes to the format of the conference call for 2014. We'll be starting the call on time, and trying to keep the length of the call to under one hour so more busy people can join in. Best, -- TC
I was not able to attend the conference call when this topic was presented. Though I am very interested in knowing more about mod_v8, roadmap, availability etc. Can someone please fill me in? :) Regards, Kenn On Wed, Jan 8, 2014 at 6:45 PM, Travis Cross <tc@travislists.com> wrote:

Something alpha/beta will be going in to tree in the next week or so was the plan. On Jan 10, 2014, at 8:01 AM, Kenn Leth Hansen <klh@justfone.dk> wrote:

In short - I will hopefully push mod_v8 to git head sometime next week. Currently all features (from mod_spidermonkey) is implemented, but I still have a couple of issues to resolve, and most of all, some more testing to do. I will work more on it this weekend, and the beginning of next week. So I'm aiming for a push 15-16 january sometime. /Peter 2014/1/10 Kenn Leth Hansen <klh@justfone.dk>

Great! Will it be 1 process and async functions? Node.js style? On Fri, Jan 10, 2014 at 8:39 AM, Peter Olsson <peter@olssononline.se> wrote:

No, it will work quite like mod_spidermonkey works today - synchronous calls within the FS channel's thread. To make things work async would require a HUGE middle layer between FS and V8, It would probably even be easier to implement that outside FS (as a separate process), using ESL to communicate to FS instead. /Peter 2014/1/11 Joseph Khoury <kjoseph.us@gmail.com>
