Fwd: Forward phone calls
Hi, I would like to build a small box with a GSM Phone connected through USB to receive and forward calls. I am wondering if it is possible using freeswitch. This is the scenario I would like it to cater for: I have a small company and have to give people my phone number. I don't want them to call me on my private phone. But at the same time, I hate having 2 phones with me!. I want to setup a server with a GSM Phone connected. I want all calls coming to this phone to be forwarded to my private phone [calls within the same network are free] I want all calls from my private phone coming to this phone to be answered and forwarded to a specified number in this fashion: Let's say the number attached to the server is 600123456 I want to dial on my private number 600123456w600654987 and call 600654987 through the phone connected to the server. I hope this scenario is clear. Thanks in advance Krystian -- Krystian Szczesny
This is definitely possible, assuming that Giovanni's mod_gsmopen will work for you. (See http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Gsmopen) You will definitely need to put in some effort learning the basics of FreeSWITCH, then learning how to make and receive calls, and then how to manipulate the dialplan to do the very specific operations that you have listed. The wiki has lots of dialplan examples that you can build off of. Also, the default dialplan is a good place to look for examples and ideas - and just to learn what FreeSWITCH is capable of. Of course, we like to encourage people to buy our FreeSWITCH book as well! :) Hope this helps, MC 2010/9/3 Krystian Szczęsny <k.szczesny@gmail.com>

And if you want a GSM solution that will send/receive SMS and is on beta for FreeSWITCH (but very stable since I've been using without a problem), check Khomp. http://www.khomp.com.br Regards, João Mesquita On Fri, Sep 3, 2010 at 2:40 PM, Michael Collins <msc@freeswitch.org> wrote:

Thanks a lot, It might be a good addition to the voice call forwarding, as there still seem to be people using sms over email... :/ 2010/9/3 João Mesquita <jmesquita@freeswitch.org>

Did you literarily mean the size of the box like this Seagate http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/network_storage/freeagent_dockstar DockStar ? If so, it has been done. Have a look http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r24479163-Other-Own-a-FreeSwitch-on-a-Seagat... here . If you prefer to have your http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/network_storage/freeagent_dockstar DockStar runs on a debian OS, have a look http://skorfulose.de/2010/07/22/how-to-install-debian-on-seagate-docksta here . Once this is done, you can compile/run FreeSWITCH on it. Then, buy a USB GSM/Modem dongle to use with this device.

Hello, thank you very much for the info. This is all I needed to know: that my idea will work with FreeSWITCH. I own Linksys NSLU2, which seems to be able to run Asterisk so I hope I will be able to run FS on it. Thanks again, Krystian On Fri, Sep 3, 2010 at 8:41 PM, mazilo <Nabble@slickdeals.endjunk.com>wrote:

I once has my FreeSWITCH v1.0.6 hosted on a Netgear http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2598 WGT634U running on an OpenWRT firmware. It works just fine, except it crawls! That said, a Linksys NSLU2 shouldn't have a problem to host FreeSWTCH, except it will be very sloooooooooooow.
