Why start a new project with 4/5 year old OS? If you install MS OSs from Windows 2000 on to 2012 on identical software and run SMP benchmarks, you will find that the scores improve with each newer OS. This is because MS has constantly tweaked and perfected the OS to take advantage of the ever increasing number of CPUs and cores in modern hardware. FreeSwitch is highly multithreaded and works great with many cores. I would go with Server2012 just for this reason. Now, if you already have the 2008 licenses and not the 2012, then you might want to go with those, since the performance difference will probably not be that great as to justify the expense. Beware of the following issue I noticed: When you run Freeswitch on Windows Server 2012R2 inside a VMware virtual machine (I used VMware Player) fs_cli.exe hangs after some commands typed in it. However replacing 2012R2 by plain Windows Server 2012 solves that (in the same virtualization environment). Running Freeswitch on Windows Server 2012R2 installed directly in the host machine (no virtualization) is OK concerning to fs_cli.
That issue really happens. Generaly the fs_cli.exe breaks after typing the same command twice. -----Mensagem original----- De: freeswitch-users-bounces@lists.freeswitch.org [mailto:freeswitch-users-bounces@lists.freeswitch.org] Em nome de Julio Cabezas Enviada em: domingo, 26 de outubro de 2014 11:03 Para: freeswitch-users@lists.freeswitch.org Assunto: [Freeswitch-users] RES: RES: Windows server + freeswitch Beware of the following issue I noticed: When you run Freeswitch on Windows Server 2012R2 inside a VMware virtual machine (I used VMware Player) fs_cli.exe hangs after some commands typed in it. I noticed a number of responses to this, but I´m gonna add my 2 cents. First of all for new machines, there is no reason to install or buy an older version of the OS. The current version being sold is Server 2012 R2. Unless you need to operate with something that has been deprecated in the newer versions of the OS, and a lot of stuff has been since 2008R2, there would be no reason to go backward. If we are talking about using an existing system, then the question is: Is there a reason to upgrade? And that would all depend on the application FS is being used for. Are you doing things where there are great performance improvements in newer versions of the OS? For example does your application do lots of Disk I/O? If so then consider upgrading since 2008R2 doesn´t handle 4k native sector size drives. Are you building an HA application? If so, consider 2012/2012R2 because you have much cheaper hardware solutions to cluster. As you can see, there is no one correct answer. --Dave From: freeswitch-users-bounces@lists.freeswitch.org [mailto:freeswitch-users-bounces@lists.freeswitch.org] On Behalf Of Guilherme Dantas Sent: Friday, September 26, 2014 10:42 AM To: freeswitch-users@lists.freeswitch.org Subject: [Freeswitch-users] Windows server + freeswitch Hello, I am new at this mail list, so I don`t know how to check if this question was asked before (if yes, I am sorry) Which of these two Windows Server versions would be better to use with the Freeswitch? - Windows server 2008 R2 or... - Windows server 2012 Thanks in advance, Guilherme Vieira Dantas - Estagiário guilherme.dantas@inovax.com.br Skype: inovax5554 Rua Paulo Emídio Barbosa, 485, Quadra 1, Centro de Excelência TIC Ilha da Cidade Universitária Rio de Janeiro RJ - CEP 21941-907
