Is anybody in a position to update the wiki, or at least shed a bit of light on this subject? http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Misc._Dialplan_Tools_pre_answer Thanks! -MC
I think that's the same as sending a provisional sip response. It means that FS have received the call request, but it havent reached the destination just yet. One provisional response is 180 which means Ringing. A final response (200) is sent when the destination user picks up the phone. guess pre answer can be used if a lenghty process will be used before the destination picks up, to inform the caller to hang on. But hey, that's just my guess, i havent really been looking in the FS sourcecode about it. On Wed, Mar 5, 2008 at 8:05 PM, Michael Collins <mcollins@fcnetwork.com> wrote:

pre_answer is equivalent to a sip 183 with sdp. It establishes media (early media) but does not answer. You can use this for example to send an in-band error message to the caller before disconnecting them (pre_answer, playback, reject with a cause code of xxxx). That being said, most apps that require media (like playback) should do a pre_answer for you. If you are having an issue with a piece of equipment taking a long time to setup a media path, you could do pre_answer, then sleep in the dial plan. Duly noted, and will hopefully put this into the fs book and/or wiki as appropriate... -MC
