Anyone interested in seeing a better IAX2 implementation in FreeSWITCH please email me off list. I'm looking for someone to help fund this project as I have found a coder that can write it. Thanks, Brian West FreeSWITCH.org
Hello, in my view fs seems a very promising project, especially if it will scale better than asterisk, but it still seems very young. I would like to understand if someone is actually using fs in production configurations. I don't think so as I've seen an email announcing release candidate 1 some time ago. Concerning MPL 1.1 licenses, what does it imply in a commercial use of the software? I'm asking this because I know digium does the double license trick (commercial and GPL) with their asterisk. Yes the MPL applies to all uses of FreeSWITCH. Its a very free license and in many cases more free than the GPL. /b On Feb 13, 2008, at 8:19 AM, Cavalera Claudio Luigi wrote:

We're running Freeswitch in production, and I'm aware of a number of companies that have deployed it in very large configurations (many having replaced existing Asterisk installations). I imagine your view of it being a "very young" project is based on the documentation currently available. I think Freeswitch requires more than a passing familiarity with telephony, and doesn't give you quite as much hand-holding as Asterisk at present. Thus, despite being an overall more stable and scalable platform (IMHO, and of those who've used it!), the initial reaction tends to be one of caution :) This is obviously changing as more and more people join the community, and you're more than welcome to help out with the effort! -- Regards, Jay Fenton <jay.fenton@howlertech.com> CTO, Howler Technologies Ltd t: +44 (0)207 099 7095 f: +44 (0)207 099 7098 Registered in England & Wales, Company No. 06285634

Can you give me an order of magnitude of the number of pure voip calls without transcoding? Something like 10 000 concurrent calls? I already love the idea of a freeswitch cluster. :-)

Documentation was not the reason of my view (I don't consider asterisk doc particularly good anyway). My view was mainly because of the first release still approaching (Freeswitch Release Candidate 1), being a slackware linux lover I got used to stability concerns. However I understand that freeswitch at the moment could be more robust than asterisk despite the release number (some people restart asterisk on production environments over time, just in case ;-). Claudio, Join IRC (irc.freenode.net/freeswitch) and look for a user named "SwK" - he's making 2.5 million calls per day with hundreds of cps. He can give you a good first-hand report on how well FS works in a high traffic environment. -MC

Actually we're moving several million minutes of calls w/ FreeSwitch... We currently have several Dual Xeon E5335 (2Ghz Quad Cores) w/ 8G of ram doing call routing and aggregation. We routinely on these boxes handle > 50 calls per second w/ Avg Call Lengths in the 20 to 40 second ranges. Peak concurrent calls > 3000... the short ALoCs ,make it kinda hard on seeing that number get above there... Calls are routed via a closed source, DB backed Least Cost Routing module that I spent some bit of time developing... Even at > 400 calls/sec invite in to invite out times are < 150ms leaving minimal impact on the PDD... There is a large feature list on the LCR that we will be releasing soon... If you want more information on it email me off list krice no@spam rmktek no.spam com or find me on IRC K
