Attention FreeSWITCHERS, We are going to have a Logo contest for a new logo for FreeSWITCH. We would like that capture the idea that we are connecting things or converging things. The logo will need to be provided in at least 300dpi as big as possible for t-shirts and other such project related material. The logos will be put up and voted on and the winner will receive a 2xFXO, 2xFXS Analog card from Sangoma and a Sweater. Please email your logo designs to me along with your information. The logo will have to be licensed for unlimited use by the project. You can also join #freeswitch-web to talk about related items. Thanks, Brian West FreeSWITCH
Hi, Your email inspired me to make a collection of pictures that, to me, convey the meanings of
We would like that capture the idea that we are connecting things or converging things.
and of
To expand on convergence;
Just as there are different languages around the world, there are different languages within communications mediums. Fax, Email, SMS, Voice, Video, IM, the list goes on. FreeSWITCH the univeral translator of communication mediums.
Please, check it over here: http://www.istockphoto.com/my_lightbox_contents.php?lightboxID=1285133 (the pictures are in no particular order) Also, the font Jigsaw Stencil-Bold came to my mind, http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/typotheque/jigsaw/stencil-bold/ I think the connected parts suit the theme :) I hope some talented graphics designer can make something inspiring out of this! Cheers, -- J. Javier Maestro <jjmaestro@nosys.es> Socio Consultor - Nosys AJjV S.L.
Hi, I have done some mockups for the freeswitch logo, http://freeswitch.2jotas.com/ I have used some of the images I selected from istockphoto.com... I have used the testing images, that is why you will see the watermarks in some of them (the ones I could retouch I did so, to try and make the logos more "real"). If any of you like them or the ideas they convey, please feel free to copy them and improve them!! make a vector image and submit it :) I am not a graphics designer, and I don't have the necessary skills. If one of these logos is chosen, - I will pay for the high-res image from istockphoto, or someone could re-do a similar image royalty-free :) - I would not claim the price, as I would not be able to do the vector image, I would just like to be mentioned somewhere to feed my ego a little bit :D Cheers, -- J. Javier Maestro <jjmaestro@nosys.es> Socio Consultor - Nosys AJjV S.L.

Slight update on this. In order that the logo can be used for very large format banners and such, we will need something final in a vector format so that it can be resized properly without loss. Mike

Jason, Try black and grey borders. Emphasize the borders. But, not too much. Maybe a light grey inner? Light Grey, hmmmm. Definitely a different font. That font.. I won't say publicly that it.. I like the orange and blue, and the style of the arrows. Keep that. -m On Sat, 17 Feb 2007, Jason Garland wrote:

Brian, I think you should require entries to be in SVG, then size wont matter and the logo will be much more usable for all kinds of medium. Tom
I agree. Atleast some kind of vector image format should be required. This probably means NO PHOTOSHOP or GIMP! Please use Adobe Illustrator or something simular that can do vector graphics. A 30 day trial is available from Adobe.com - Jason On 2/20/07, Tom Davidson <mail@tomdavidson.org> wrote:

Well, actually first the Roman Empire, then the German Empire and now the USian Empire.** 8-) (I am not referring to it as "America" because there are so many other countries on the 3 American continents). <trivia>Did you know that there are far more Bald Eagles in the 51st state then all of the others combined?</trivia> Brian, just to clarify. Were you being tongue-in-cheek? I do not know either Tony or yourself well enough to "get it" if that was a joke. **There are most likely other countries that (have) use(d) the Eagle as their national symbol. I know this is probably not the time to bring this up, but after having sold BSD technology for years to support the community and to make money, one of the biggest problems FreeBSD had was the use of Free in the name. People thought less of the product because of the name. Why do you charge for something that is free? Just a thought. If creating a logo/image, now would be the time to make it happen where resellers of the product could position the FreeSwitch better. The Bald Eagle may especially be a symbol of freedom however in a way all birds give that sense to some extent since they can fly. Here is a couple of alternative options. Just trying to help provide some ideas. The Book of World Records calls the Peregrine Falcon 'the fastest bird on earth' in a dive at 217mph. The Spine-Tailed Swift is the fastest bird on the level, reaching 106mph. --- Brian West <brian.west@mac.com> wrote:

the bald eagle may be seen as a symbol of freedom, but unfortunately it sounds like *us propaganda*. sorry to say but i guess most of the non-us citizens (i'm afraid that america is a continent rather than a single country), have a hard time about this issue, as far as the responses have been. my (.02)+ gabriel Quoting Mark Crane <mctch@yahoo.com>:
