Hello Can you give me a rough estimate on how long it would take to have a production quality / release candidate version of FreeSwitch? Are we talking about 6 months, 1 year, 2 years? thanks, Jonas
The simple answer to that is when you determine it is ready. We will not do a formal release until we have addressed core api stability and documentation more completely, but I urge you to put freeswitch in your lab and test it for your needs. We most definitely need more feedback from the user community as to what they experience to make this decision. I will take on building a proper release requirements list that will dictate the things necessary for us to mark a release. Mike

Hi All, last time I checked the dev-status, there wasn't a way to authenticate clients against SIP/Sofia module, it was a TODO. I'd like to give it a try, bridging gtalk and sip on a public box (not production one, but publicly accessible), and then bridge FS to Asterisk via authenticated SIP/IAX. What I would like to do is make FS the public 'concentrator' for the Internet and having a PBX (or maybe more than one) behind for internal use. But I'd like to have at least sofia auth to give it a try in a good environment. thanks, c. -- Cosimo Alfarano kalfa@{bononia.it,debian.org,cs.unibo,it}

That has not been the case for some time. We most definitely do authentication.

Sounds good.

Like I had said, put it up and try it out. There is starting to be some better documentation on the wiki (wiki.freeswitch.org) and the sample configs are getting better over time. After you read those docs, if you still have question on how to do it, feel free to pop in on irc and we can give you some help.

ok, thank you. http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/ FreeSwitch_FAQ#Q:_How_do_I_setup_SIP_client_authentication.3F FAQs still assert there's no way and the 'home' example only gives a way to register FS against a SIP server. I am still not able find a way to register (authenticating) against FS a client, only an 'open' registration. It's not an actual needing for me, so I've never looked for it that much, but if it's possible now, it should be a immediate thing to be found on wiki and in tarball's conf/ dir c.
