Voicemail not to announce extension number
I have used the examples/conf files to configure my FS (v1.0.6) hosted on a Seagate DockStar running on an OpenWRT OS. So far, so good. I am able to place/receive outbound/receive calls, respectively sans any problems. The Voicemail (VM) nicely kicks in when no one answer the phone and annouces the person at extension XXXX is not available ... It certainly will be nice if anyone here can help me to modify the VM not to announce the extension number. ----- don't and stop are the ONLY two 4-letter words considered offensive to men, but not when used together. -- View this message in context: http://freeswitch-users.2379917.n2.nabble.com/Voicemail-not-to-announce-exte... You could record a custom greeting through the voicemail system or modify the default macro "voicemail_play_greeting" in the file .conf/lang/en/vm/sounds.xml -- View this message in context: http://freeswitch-users.2379917.n2.nabble.com/Voicemail-not-to-announce-exte... The conf/lang/en/vm/sounds.xml file is shown below: <macro name="voicemail_play_greeting"> <input pattern="^(.*)$"> <match> <action function="play-file" data="voicemail/vm-person.wav"/> <action function="say" data="$1" method="pronounced" type="name_spelled"/> <action function="play-file" data="voicemail/vm-not_available.wav"/> </match> </input> </macro> I suspect the data="$1" (on line 5) passes the extension number. If anyone knows what should I replace this variable "$1" so that VM will announce the number the callee calls instead of the extension, it sure will help. ----- don't and stop are the ONLY two 4-letter words considered offensive to men, but not when used together. -- View this message in context: http://freeswitch-users.2379917.n2.nabble.com/Voicemail-not-to-announce-exte... Sorry and that doesn't seem to work even after I did a shutdown/relaunch FS. Callers keep hearing the person at extension XXXX is not available ... where XXXX is the extension that rings when the caller calls my number. If the callers hear the person at extension XXX-XXX-XXXX is not available ... where XXX-XXX-XXXX is my number dialed by the caller, they won't know which extension the incoming call is configured to forward to and all they will know is the dialed number. ----- don't and stop are the ONLY two 4-letter words considered offensive to men, but not when used together. -- View this message in context: http://freeswitch-users.2379917.n2.nabble.com/Voicemail-not-to-announce-exte... mazilo, you're over complicating it; -call your voicemail -press 5 for advanced options -listen to the menu and go to record a greeting -record whatever number greeting you want saying "hello, i'm unavailable, leave your msg" or something less informal -go to the advanced options menu again and press select greeting -select the one you just recorded now the ones calling you will hear something even better than an automated voice!! now... if you still want to do it with automated voices, set a var (not sure if you also need to export it) with the destination number on the moment the initial call is done (the one that catches the XXX-XXXX-XXXX long number) then use that var. good luck! -milena On Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 11:39 AM, mazilo <Nabble@slickdeals.endjunk.com>wrote:

Is that so? If I could change a single variable for VM announcer to announce my number instead of the 4-digits extension, wouldn't it be simpler than to record own voice as you detailed below? -call your voicemail
-press 5 for advanced options -listen to the menu and go to record a greeting -record whatever number greeting you want saying "hello, i'm unavailable, leave your msg" or something less informal -go to the advanced options menu again and press select greeting -select the one you just recorded I thank you for the detail explanation. If I am interested in the above, I wouldn't have posted here to start with.
now the ones calling you will hear something even better than an automated
voice!! Sorry, that's your opinion and it is different from mine.
now... if you still want to do it with automated voices, set a var (not sure
if you also need to export it) with the destination number on the moment the initial call is done (the one that catches the XXX-XXXX-XXXX long number) then use that var. This may be interesting. Obviously, I wouldn't know how to do this; otherwise, I wouldn't post here to ask. So, can you go into detail on how to do this, like you detailed the above explanation? I sure would appreciate that if you could.

hello, Telling you that you need to set any variable you want and where to set it should be informative enough... a fish?, with Anthony's, Jeff's and my post you should have enough tools to go fishing there are lots of examples on "how to set a variable" in the default dialplans, check the ones that set "open" in default.xml, it is exactly what you need. You can also google it. if you want to set a variable in a language different than the xml dialplan, the wiki has examples too. just have fun exploring freeswitch! -milena On Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 1:47 PM, mazilo <Nabble@slickdeals.endjunk.com>wrote:

unfortunately it does <macro name="voicemail_play_greeting"> <input pattern="^(.*)$"> <match> <action function="play-file" data="voicemail/vm-person.wav"/> <action function="say" data="${destination_number}" method="pronounced" type="name_spelled"/> <action function="play-file" data="voicemail/vm-not_available.wav"/> </match> </input> </macro> I just modified mine to test it and it says the called destination number in place of the voice box when i do this. Exactly like I explained. Maybe the problem is that you are on 1.0.6 and it's before the expansion of variables was added to the phrase macros, but I don't think so. I think you probably just did it wrong and came back to be rude to everyone who was trying to help you. Go read your signature and practice what you preach. Anthony, Thanks for the above clarification. As I mentioned in my OP, my FS is v1.0.6 and VM still announces the XXXX (4-digits) extension numbers when replacing $1 with ${destination_number}. Anyway, I resolved the issue using ${sip_to_user} instead of ${destination_number}. For my FS system, I took an additional step to modify the vm-person.wav file. This way, when VM annouces the message, the caller will only hear The person at (instead of The person at extension) + the trunk numbers the caller tried to reach + the rest messages. To me, this approach is way simpler than going through all the recording process suggested by http://freeswitch-users.2379917.n2.nabble.com/user/UserNodes.jtp?user=80550 Milena-2-2 as shown on his http://freeswitch-users.2379917.n2.nabble.com/Voicemail-not-to-announce-exte... post above. ----- don't and stop are the ONLY two 4-letter words considered offensive to men, but not when used together. -- View this message in context: http://freeswitch-users.2379917.n2.nabble.com/Voicemail-not-to-announce-exte...
