FreeSwitch on FreeBSD
I'm trying to get FreeSwitch installed on FreeBSD 7. Right now trying to find all the dependencies. * SVN: Lots of choices here. * GNUMAKE: The GNU version of make. gmake-3.81_2 (required by autoconf-2.61_2) * AUTOCONF: Version 2.50 or higher ports/devel/autoconf261/ autoconf-2.61_2 * GCC: Version 3.95 or higher ports/lang/gcc34/ gcc-3.4.6_3,1 * WGET: Almost any version pkg_add -r wget * AUTOMAKE: Version 1.70 or higher unknown * GLIBTOOL: Version 1.5.14 or higher unknown (maybe the same as libtool 1.5.24?) pkg_add -r libtool * LIBNCURSES: Almost any version unknown (is this the same as ncurses-5.6_1?) pkg_add -r ncurses So right now I'm needing to find automake, and confirm if gmake, libtool, and ncurses are correct. Any help is appreciated once I have something working I will work on getting it added to the wiki. In the long run I'm planning on creating a package for freeswitch to run on a PFSense Appliance as add on. (PFSense Appliance is a new project coming out of PFSense firewall project except the appliance will be for more general purpose use). I've successfully build freeswitch on the following BSD machine: FreeBSD bsd.quist.ca 6.2-RELEASE-p7 FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE-p7 #2: The only small caveat was that gmake was needed for the make install portion. On Fri, Mar 28, 2008 at 8:24 AM, Mark Crane <mctch@yahoo.com> wrote:

Hello, Is there more documentation, even at the code level I could use to reference what certain module variables are and can contain. For instance: default.xml: <param name="sip-ip" value="$${local_ip_v4}"/> Where is the sip-ip param used, what are the possible values, can you comma delimit multiple ip addresses, do you add additional sip-ip params for multiple ips, can you use a wild card value. At this point I've really only found the wiki as a source for documentation and it doesn't get specific about a lot of things. Thoughts? Thanks! -Tim

the IP to bind to for the sip profile... then rtp-ip is the ip for the rtp for that profile... Both of these would need to be an ip address to bind to that is actually bound to an ethernet interface on the machine. Committed revision 7978. /b

Thanks for the reply. My questions wasn't about those specific params but rather the ability to look up params overall I suppose. Additionally, I found that if I set $domain is being set to 127.0.0.1 which I see in vars.xml domain=$${local_ip_v4}. I commented out this line and manually set the domain but I don't think comments work with the pre-process tags, correct? because domain is still being set to 127.0.0.1. On top of that where does local_ip_v4 come from? The binding param has been manually set to an ip and yet the local_ip_v4 var does not reflect that binding... Are there any plans for documentation other than the wiki? -----Original Message----- From: freeswitch-users-bounces@lists.freeswitch.org [mailto:freeswitch-users-bounces@lists.freeswitch.org] On Behalf Of Brian West Sent: Friday, March 28, 2008 2:23 PM To: freeswitch-users@lists.freeswitch.org Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] Documentation On Mar 28, 2008, at 3:53 PM, Tim Ferguson wrote:

You can ignore everything in vars.xml and just set it. And preprocessors directives can't be commented out. /b On Mar 28, 2008, at 4:32 PM, Tim Ferguson wrote:

Yes! It has been slow going but we are trying to get some momentum built up with the freeswitch-docs project. We're still in the very early stages. Right now the wiki is pretty much everything, and you're right in noting that it is far from comprehensive or complete. Documentation is on the to-do list but unfortunately it isn't as high on the list as 'make the thing work'! :) Thanks, MC P.S. - there is an IRC channel for documenters: #freeswitch-docs and you can download the 'freeswitch book', such as it is, here: http://svn.freeswitch.org/svn/freeswitch-docs/trunk (Hope you like docbook!)
I been putting FreeSwitch in production environment under FreeBSD 6.x/FreeBSD 7.x/FreeBSD 8.x/FreeBSD-stable/FreeBSD-current since March 2006 up to now and it works very well without the hassles that you encountered. Which makes me wonder with regards to your claim that you are creating a package and put it in an appliance but you got stumbled on those packages. So I guess you come from the Linux environment. It's not rocket science though and you will be fine with either using the ports tree or the pkg_add.
I'm trying to get FreeSwitch installed on FreeBSD 7. Right now trying to find all the dependencies.
