mod_native_file and speex
I'm using Speex to bridge calls between an out-of-state Asterisk box and a local FreeSWITCH IVR. This works great, but I'm having to do needless transcoding on the FS system to play the IVR .wav files. I tried using speexenc to generate speex versions of the files but the audio is garbled (sounds like a screech). No errors or warnings are generated on the console when playing the file. I'm only using 8000Hz, mono files and generate the speex file with -n (narrowband) argument. I believe speexenc generates the files in an ogg container, so perhaps this is the problem, but I'm not sure how to get around it if it is. In any case, if anyone knows of a recipe for creating speex files that mod_native_file can use, I'd appreciate a pointer. Regards, Cliff
Hi, I made a small tool to encode files for use with mod_native_file, it's being compiled automatically as part of the normal install process. Try that: fs_encode -l mod_speex file.wav file.SPEEX PS: The binary sits right next to fs_cli and freeswitch Mathieu Rene Avant-Garde Solutions Inc Office: + 1 (514) 664-1044 x100 Cell: +1 (514) 664-1044 x200 mrene@avgs.ca On 2011-10-05, at 3:21 PM, Cliff Wells wrote:

Hi Mathieu, I will give that a try, thanks! Cliff On Thu, 2011-10-06 at 00:42 -0400, Mathieu Rene wrote:

Try that: fs_encode -l mod_speex file.wav file.SPEEX
Similar result: file appears to play successfully, but only silence is heard. As you can see, it gets done playing rather quickly (message is actually about 20s in duration). 2011-10-05 23:59:37.357566 [INFO] mod_native_file.c:94 Opening File [/usr/local/freeswitch/scripts/jovan-message.SPEEX] 8000hz 2011-10-05 23:59:37.357566 [DEBUG] switch_ivr_play_say.c:1302 Codec Activated L16@8000hz 1 channels 20ms 2011-10-05 23:59:37.357566 [DEBUG] switch_ivr_play_say.c:1672 done playing file Cliff

I just noticed the previous line states "Codec Activated L16@8000hz". Why would the L16 codec be selected? Regards, Cliff
