Ok guys we are trying to raise some funds to buy an 8 core T2000 box for the FreeSWITCH project. Anyone wishing to assist in this endeavor please email me off list. Thanks, Brian West brian@freeswitch.org

Hi Brian, Maybe you could let us have a few words as to why..? Cheers -- Dave

Sorry David now I can give a better response now. We have been wanting to check out the performance on the Ultrasparc with coolthreads. We have been told its the ultimate platform for freswitch but without one or access to one to do ongoing testing and development work its hard for us to judge that. You should check out the T2000 specs and information about coolthreads. I think we could even make due with a T1000 but he floating point on that model isn't as good as the T2000. /b brian@freeswitch.org On Mar 19, 2008, at 8:04 PM, David Knell wrote:

Acually brian... You should pay more attention to the CPU not the T2000/T1000 nomenclature The T2000 is is the original server model witht he UltraSparc T1 CPU What you are really meaning is the UltraSparc T2 CPU based machine... The T2 CPU features much better FPU performance then the T1 CPU... I can attest to the lack of performance on the T1 CPU... Its was horrible... However the number of threads able to be handled per core on the T1 and T2 CPUs make it an optimal platform for use on FreeSwitch.... If Codecs and Such could be done completely with integer math the lack of FPU would probably be ok K

Sorry just going by what I'm told. :P

Correct.

If Codecs and Such could be done completely with integer math the lack of FPU would probably be ok
So G711 should be ok on either CPU. /b

Perhaps, SUN will be willing to "help" http://www.sun.com/tryandbuy/ Try Our Products Free for 60 Days and then Buy at 25 - 45% Off How do you know how well a hot new product will work in your environment? You have to try it. Test it. Stress it. It's easier than ever to plug in Sun's newest, coolest products free for 60 days, with full technical support. You pay nothing—not even shipping. And, if you decide to buy your trial system, it is at 25 - 45% off. It's almost too good to be true. Try talking to your nearest SUN dealer and talk them into sponsoring, etc. Also, if you throw in the mix some "bundling" of the tests with other SUN products, say, something about OpenSolaris (testing FreeSwitch compilation under OpenSolaris, see how good it runs in a T2000 with OpenSolaris or Solaris itself, stressing a setup with MySQL in the mix too, now that they purchased it, etc) they might be more receptive. Specially if you present some really cool results in the ClueCON 2008 with the brand new RC1 :D If you follow up on this, please tell the list (or at least me :) because I was thinking in requesting one of these beabies myself to try some database and web server stressing tests myself :D Just my 2 cents!
