"Upgrade" from 1.3b to 1.2stable caused higher cpu usage
Hi, We have 5 Freeswitch servers running with about 500 concurrent calls total so about 100 each at peak. These servers was installed with version FreeSWITCH Version 1.3.13b+git~20130215T194756Z~9733740cab (git 9733740 2013-02-15 19:47:56Z) and they have been running fine with 250% cpu (out of 2400%), load average hits 3 at peak. We wanted to get our Freeswitch onto a stable release and thought 1.2.12 was the most stable version so this is what we installed on one server. This servers cpu is at 800-900% and load average hits 10 when the server runs with 1.2.12, if we rollback cpu goes back to old 2-300%.. Call quality is still ok but I feel we have less room for more load and upgrading should normally improve performance not decrees performance. Just as an experiment I also tried to install latest 1.4 thinking this might have been something in the 1.2 branch but 1.4 acts the exact same. here is a quick vmstat snapshot: procs -----------memory---------- ---swap-- -----io---- -system-- ----cpu---- r b swpd free buff cache si so bi bo in cs us sy id wa 15 2 0 430144 321280 9988432 0 0 3 33 1 1 11 3 87 0 7 0 0 425160 321344 9991936 0 0 56 116 67726 113824 30 4 66 0 22 0 0 424380 321368 9993580 0 0 28 0 84236 148377 25 4 70 0 19 0 0 423656 321404 9994324 0 0 32 0 61714 103954 23 2 74 0 9 0 0 422740 321444 9996020 0 0 24 1524 52116 86355 23 2 74 0 7 0 0 421908 321456 9997160 0 0 20 5524 58977 98786 22 2 76 0 10 0 0 420812 321464 9998244 0 0 4 0 52964 83640 23 2 75 0 21 0 0 417152 321496 9999184 0 0 56 36 73430 124669 25 3 71 0 6 0 0 417496 321516 10000704 0 0 20 0 78778 134441 27 3 69 0 This is from sometime, same calls but from a freeswitch 1.3 server: procs -----------memory---------- ---swap-- -----io---- -system-- ----cpu---- r b swpd free buff cache si so bi bo in cs us sy id wa 3 0 244 2668752 269200 4589652 0 0 7 60 1 0 14 3 83 0 4 0 244 2666192 269228 4590676 0 0 64 12 44941 50134 24 4 72 0 3 0 244 2670200 269256 4592680 0 0 28 24 62350 86122 34 4 62 0 4 0 244 2668584 269280 4593848 0 0 20 0 43495 53052 27 2 70 0 6 0 244 2664636 269332 4595884 0 0 32 5576 53941 67240 26 4 70 0 8 0 244 2665316 269380 4596720 0 0 40 68 66434 91266 31 4 64 0 3 0 244 2666780 269404 4597792 0 0 24 0 41862 48055 23 3 74 0 -- - Freddy
Can you git bisect between master HEAD and that 1.3b tag and see if you can find a specific commit? On Fri, Sep 20, 2013 at 12:37 PM, Freddy Andersen <freddy@cfandersen.com>wrote:

git checkout master git clean -fdx git bisect start git bisect bad git bisect good v1.3.13 run bootstrap and configure and build FS every time its bad: enter "git bisect bad" or if its good enter "git bisect good" Then it will move to another revision.
From there you need to do
make install note, if you get errors in spandsp, cd libs/spandsp autoreconf -fi sh configure.gnu cd ../.. make On Tue, Sep 24, 2013 at 4:12 PM, Freddy Andersen <freddy@cfandersen.com>wrote:

I am sure there are people who know a lot more about this but hope this helps. I use the following in the source FreeSwitch directory: git log <- this displays the git levels and dates of every change Assuming you know what date the problem did not occur, copy the git level from the log screen, then: git bisect start git bisect bad <- this tells bisect the current level has the problem git bisect good ….git level…. <- this tells bisect at what level the problem did not occur Now do you make, etc. and test. If the problem still exists type "git bisect bad", if not "git bisect good". Each time doing a make, install, test. Eventually you will find what level introduced the problem. However…. on most occasions I found that some levels would not get a clean "make" so I would have to look at the log try to pick levels close but would clean compile, Mario G On Sep 24, 2013, at 2:12 PM, Freddy Andersen <freddy@cfandersen.com> wrote:

Call quality is still ok but I feel we have less room for more load and upgrading should normally improve performance not decrees performance. Just as an experiment I also tried to install latest 1.4 thinking this might have been something in the 1.2 branch but 1.4 acts the exact same.
here is a quick vmstat snapshot:

Hi, I am trying to call into a conference using two ekiga phones, with video. I know that the video presented will only follow the active speaker. I have tried video-bridge and video-floor-only options, but neither seem to work. I can see that they are enabled when I use the conference list command, and I can also see each member has the 'video' property set, but there is no received video. Both members are using H261 codec, which I have enabled in vars.xml. Is there some other option that I need in order for video to work? Thanks, David
Use master HEAD and do not set the video-bridge, that is a special option that you don't need. On Fri, Sep 20, 2013 at 2:25 PM, D D <tru083@yahoo.com> wrote:
