in this part of the world we also have to proxy media, for 2 reasons, for hiding our gateways from end users because we retail as well as wholesale and plus many other providers have rtp proxy setup in different data centers, which ever is closer to the customer.
FS can proxy media but if its processing a lot of calls its better to make something else proxy the media outside the FS box and things like rtpengine help a lot.
Although u might argue FS should only process signalling but in real world i havent seen any trunk or carrier or vendor not proxying rtp
