So we use FreeSWITCH in a few places in our network.

Customer Edge SBC:

Freeswitch sits behind Kamailio, and acts as an SBC performing topology hiding,
RTP Proxying, Transcoding ( where needed - with Sangoma cards ), Number manipulation.

Carrier SBC:

We also use FreeSWITCH as an SBC between our network and carriers.

Topology hiding, RTP Proxying, number manipulation ( carriers want traffic sent in varying number formats )

Intelligent Network Nodes:

We use FreeSWITCH with XML Curl / LUA etc. to handle call routing, conditional routing ( time, source location, etc. ). All manner of routing logic is performed in these Freeswitch boxes.

Fax2Email:

Freeswitch receives faxes and transmits them via email.
You know for people who love to live in the 80's and still use faxes.

Pretty much all of my FS boxes have 2 or more sofia profiles, on separate private network segments.

I honestly think FS excels with multihomed servers as above, the way Sofia profiles work is just so neat and tidy.

Needless to say, I love FreeSWITCH :)
