We need to know when the phones have gone AWOL.

Without this scheme, we are getting mysterious cases of phones not ringing when the ISP is having a bad hair day.
This doesn't exactly fix the problem, but it does enable us to alert the user who can then take appropriate measures.

I suppose if it was just a temporary glitch, we've just made it a permanent one....

Mmm.

Given that some phones seem to be far more susceptible to this than others, there could be a babies with bathwater issue. Might have to rethink the strategy here, but the most important thing is to look out for failed OPTIONS responses.

Why does that help...?

Careful with unregister-on-options-fail  any glitch I'm the internet and you'll lose the registrations.
