hi,

I constantly see ppl want to switch to FS from some crap proprietary software like voipswitch, normal end users or users running voip in small environments or for purpose of wholesale and retail and from a beginners point of view they want something that runs out of the box for certain purposes on linux as well as windows.
The only issue is they need to spend time understanding the core fundamentals and then making changes and this is time consuming and at times some r not got at developing most of the components or merging them to work as a single unit.

What i would like or recommend is a setup.exe for windows or package for linux with just 3 types of preconfigured setup, IP PBX, Wholesale VoIP and retail VoIP so beginners can simply install them and they would be pre configured installs with probably a sql db, some sort of basic web gui and FS modules pre configured such as xml curl or scripts or whatever is suitable for the task, so many more ppl can get on the bandwagon. Later they can do the changes needed or extra development to enable extra functionality.

Personally i tried out FS when it was born and at that time faced some issues and lack of documentation so let it go for a few years but later i revisited when i got to read the books on it and then managed to understand it and then use in production after lot of tinkering so i would prefer if others also dont have to really spend time understanding it rather than using it, the more curious ppl while using it can learn more over time.

Considering the rest of u are developers or advanced users this might seem a very basic request but i speak for the very basic users who want to use FS but find it very complex unless they start using it and reading more of the docs.
FusionPBX is one classic example which most install for a IP PBX role because its like u install and it just works and then while using ppl come from there to FS irc to learn a little more and makes changes for their needs

Regards,
Bipin

Hi,

We are having an annual gathering to decide the roadmap for upcoming FreeSWITCH 1.8
Now is your chance to propose some feature requests in this thread.  No guarantees, but this is the best time during our release cycle to daydream about the future.

We hope to have a first cut of 1.8 in time for ClueCon 2017 so register early, the price is the lowest it will ever be during the Early Bird pricing offer lasting only a few more weeks.

Also, Brian has started a fund to raise money to provide the team with meals and offset travel expenses if possible during the upcoming summit in little over a week from now.

Its one really easy way to show your appreciation for another year of open source telephony!
