It depends on the type of virtualisation.

If you're emulating the entire machine (eg VirtualBox, VMWare etc) which includes a full Linux installation so you're running your own kernel you can load your own kernel drivers. Skypopen will work on these.

But there's also a container-based approach (eg see openvz) where you're in a partition of a shared installation with a shared kernel. On such a setup you can't load kernel drivers since it would affect all users and thus be a security flaw if it were allowed. You can't use skypopen on these.

thanks, there was a link for doing it on Rackspace cloud , that's why I thought it could be possible. also in the wiki it's been mentioned that :
"Skypopen runs on Virtual Machines"
What about snd-dummy? and if yes, can the installer be changed to use that instead?

Thanks

No, you cannot load a module in the kernel of a vps.
Vps does not have a kernel

Hello everyone.

I'm wondering if anyone has managed to install the skypopen.ko sound driver on a VPS?
I even tried with this error:

rm -rf *.o *~ core .depend .*.cmd *.ko *.mod.c .tmp_versions
make -C /lib/modules/2.6.32-042stab084.26/build M=/usr/src/freeswitch/src/mod/endpoints/mod_skypopen/oss LDDINC=/usr/src/freeswitch/src/mod/endpoints/mod_skypopen/oss/../include modules
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.32-042stab084.26/build: Not a directory.  Stop.
make: *** [modules] Error 2

and even followed the link on the wiki :

but when I issue:
zcat /proc/config.gz | sudo tee /usr/src/linux/.config > /dev/null
I get:
gzip: /proc/config.gz: No such file or directory
tee: /usr/src/linux/.config: Not a directory

Any help would be much appreciated.
