Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] segmentation fault on startup
Darcy,
Freeswitch uses sqlite for it's database and doesn't compact the database at all and they will keep growing. If you wanted to shrink the db down, you could do a "VACUUM" from the sqlite command line. Personally, I just delete the db files when I restart freeswitch, and keep everything on a 100 meg ram disk.

One last question regarding this, after restart, I noticed the registrations
were awry, only 1 registration at a time, each new one replaced the existing
one, so we deleted all the db files and restarted freeswitch again,
corrected the problem. I noticed sofia_reg_internal was over 2.7 meg, but
now that it is restarted it is only 82kb, should these be flushed on a
regular basis, say for example, once a week, stop the freeswitch remove the
db files, restart the freeswitch, it could of course be scheduled in
crontab. This switch only has 8 registrations, we many use it as a sip
tandem (acl authentication).
Thanks
Darcy

Hard to know cos you need to get a backtrace of the crash to be able
to identify it.
But like ken said, if the db was possibly corrupted and sqlite causes
the crash then there is little we can do besides what you already did.

Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] Tracking codec g729 by event
What is the ultimate goal of this process? The reason I ask is that if the only trigger for running "g729_used" API is an event related to a channel then maybe you could just poll the server at regular intervals. ESL can totally handle that, as long as you're not doing something crazy like polling 1000 times per second.

I'm trying to keep tracking on the use of codec g729 licenses on my server.
I've a little ESL program that check all the events for a new call and if the call uses g729 i execute the api "g729_used" to fetch the value.
This doesn't work, i try it on event CODEC, and EXECUTE.
Is there any event that i can use that is trigger by the encoder/decoder in mod_com_g729 when it actives a license?
Thanks,

I go through the wiki page. Now I find a core dump file in /usr/local/freeswitch directory.

Then wiki says .. I need to get a back trace. Can I use another machine to load the core and get back trace and submit to JIRA?
Not reliably. The best thing to do is to collect the backtrace (bt) as soon as the crash occurs. Remember, when you get a core dump you need to use gdb with the exact same executable file that generated the core.xxx file. On a decent machine this process should not take more than a few minutes and there are scripts available to assist with collecting the information.

Tim, that's an excellent description. Can you please find/add/update that on the wiki?It would be great if most answers on this mailing list to explain something were links to the wiki. Or even better if the wiki was so well organized and explanatory that they wouldn't even need to ask.-Avi
Indeed, Tim did a nice job of explaining that. My recommendation for updating the wiki would be to replace this section:
http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Dialplan_XML#The_10.2C000_Foot_View
It unnecessarily brings Sofia into the picture when discussing call processing. It would be much better if that section were re-written in a way similar to Tim's email discussion. If anyone has the FS 1.0.6 "bridge" book then you could use chapters 5 and 8 as reference material. (As long as you don't just copy and paste large blocks of text then there's no copyright issues - the facts of how the dialplan is processed are not copyrightable.)
Please let me know if you guys have any questions on editing the wiki.
