I would also agree, what annoy me is only the fact that I cannot move `some` pages. As a workaround, I could delete the content and mark the page with tag 'to-delete' and then copy the content on the new page. On Wed, Jun 25, 2014 at 3:41 PM, Brian West <brian@freeswitch.org> wrote:

Sorry, reorder is what I meant (I already moved pages from my space many weeks ago and it worked then). Reordering some pages works for some but not other pages. I can’t reorder the OS X pages even though I created them. I can reorder other pages, at least a couple of weeks ago. Please keep in mind I know how to move and reorder and have done so many times since I spent a lot of time studying Confluence doc. The problem is Confluence does not always work as it should as in this case. Mario G On Jun 26, 2014, at 5:24 PM, Bote Man <bote_radio@botecomm.com> wrote:

Why do you need to move any pages?

The "Space tools -> Re-order pages" menu command takes you to the outline tree. You can drag and drop pages anywhere in the outline. This does not change the URL link so it is simple and easy to do. This is the proper way to do it.

If you release the page link onto an existing page link in the outline, it will become a child of that page. If you release the page link in between other pages in the outline it will be moved in between them as a sibling.

The "Tools -> Move" command is for moving pages to a different Confluence "space" but we have only one space and that is FREESWITCH. This depends on having page delete permission because the move operation = copy + delete.

I'm sorry that I have been missing these e-mails. My Outlook e-mail client is smarter than I am and it was following the rule that I set up to file these messages in with the general Freeswitch-users mailing list which I have not read regularly in some time. I just solved that problem.

Also, Anthony recommends (and I agree) that pages have actual meaningful content on them. IIRC I had most of the information relating to our open source community contained within the Community page. Now it has only one sentence each and then links to other pages and I'm not sure why that is desirable?

Thanks!

I agree that the Community section is important, that's why I created it on Confluence. I intended for it to be the page where FS users can find other FS users. Perhaps it should be near the top of the outline in order to attract the immediate attention of newcomers? One thing is certain: we must absolutely NOT be bound by what was done on the old MediaWiki. If things on the old wiki were scattered, disorganized, duplicated, or just plain confusing, then Confluence is our big chance to improve upon that. This is a good start. Thanks. Bote From: freeswitch-docs-bounces@lists.freeswitch.org [mailto:freeswitch-docs-bounces@lists.freeswitch.org] On Behalf Of Areski Sent: Friday, 27 June, 2014 05:32 To: FreeSWITCH Docs Team Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-docs] Opening discussion: Community Hi Bote, Moving page is a bit more powerful than reorder but it also allow one to move a page within the same space, it's explained in detail here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONF52/Moving+a+Page So yes and no, we need move page to work correctly, re-order give me the same outcome as moving a page. Please give it a go, try to move "Reporting bugs" under "Community", and let's see if this works for you. >From my side, it seems to move without error but as soon as it refresh it goes back where it was :/ I really think it's a bug or a permission issue... To answer your second question, last week I suggested the following: Community + +----> Contributing (main page on contribute code/docs) | + | +-----> Reporting Bugs | | + | | +-----> Report issue checklist | | | +-----> Docs Team | | + | | +-----> all pages under Docs Team... | + | +-----> Bounty | | + | | +-----> Bounty Completed | | | +-----> Using Git (merge Installing Git / Tips for using Git pages) | +----> MailingList | +----> IRC | +----> ClueCon Weekly Conference call | +----> ClueCon The goal was to regroup meaningful pages together rather than having too many links on the left menu or pages accessible from confusing area I also agree that pages should have useful content, and IRC page is not a wasted page and it's actually similar to the page we had previously https://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/IRC Now in other hand the community page is very similar to the module page (https://confluence.freeswitch.org/display/FREESWITCH/Modules) it points the reader to the right direction if they don't know yet what they are looking for. I think a good community page is important and it has a very big value for peoples willing to get in touch with the community, knowing about events and contribute to the project. We should look at how other take advantage of it : https://www.openstack.org/community/ & http://www.docker.com/community/ before rejecting the idea :) On Fri, Jun 27, 2014 at 3:07 AM, Mario G <mario_fs@mgtech.com> wrote: Sorry, reorder is what I meant (I already moved pages from my space many weeks ago and it worked then). Please keep in mind I know how to move and reorder and have done so many times since I spent a lot of time studying Confluence doc.

Thanks!

Bote

I would also agree, what annoy me is only the fact that I cannot move `some` pages. As a workaround, I could delete the content and mark the page with tag 'to-delete' and then copy the content on the new page.

Bote/Brian, is this something we want to enable for anyone that has edit perms or do we just want to tag them for deletion, then we can go thru at one time and have an admin delete them. This will ensure that someone with edit perms doesn’t do anything that’s a major pain to recover (no matter if they did it purposely or accidentally)

Thanks!

| +----> ClueCon (new page to present Cluecon)

Opinions / feedback / thoughts?

I read through the Atlassian JIRA and found a bunch of tickets that might or might not affect reordering pages. Some have been open for years with no assignee. I also read some semi-related workarounds just in case. One that I tried: Recently I restricted viewing of 3 pages to the -editors and -administrators group. I removed those restrictions just now and I still can't make reordering that AppleScript page stick. I have to run some errands so I'll mess with this after I return. I have only tried moving pages under the Mac tree, I'll try others when I return. I thought you meant that you couldn't drag and drop, but apparently we can yet the changes don't "take". As a separate test I clicked the A-Z alphabetize link next to Mac OS X and it did take, so now AppleScript is stuck at the bottom of that tree. I'll see if this is listed as a known bug on Confluence. Please give it a go, try to move "Reporting bugs" under "Community", and let's see if this works for you.

From my side, it seems to move without error but as soon as it refresh it goes back where it was :/

I really think it's a bug or a permission issue... | + | +-----> Bounty | | + | | +-----> Bounty Completed | | | +-----> Using Git (merge Installing Git / Tips for using Git pages) | +----> MailingList | +----> IRC | +----> ClueCon Weekly Conference call | +----> ClueCon The goal was to regroup meaningful pages together rather than having too many links on the left menu or pages accessible from confusing area I also agree that pages should have useful content, and IRC page is not a wasted page and it's actually similar to the page we had previously <https://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/IRC> https://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/IRC Now in other hand the community page is very similar to the module page ( <https://confluence.freeswitch.org/display/FREESWITCH/Modules> https://confluence.freeswitch.org/display/FREESWITCH/Modules) it points the reader to the right direction if they don't know yet what they are looking for.

OK, I see what you mean.

Bote Man, can you try this (I just tested it again):

1. Select Space Tools bottom left 2. Expand FreeSwitch Explained 3. Expand Instllation 4. Expand Mac OS X 5. Drag Installation Using AppleScript 2 lines up under Installation and Setup on OS X

This is what I do, all looks good, but then go to the tree and it is not changed for me. I cannot reorder anything in Mac OS X, yet I can reorder anything under Interoperability, both of these high level pages I created. Mario M

I just moved a few pages using "Reorder pages", both ones that I had created and ones that others had created. it worked.

Also, it's not necessary to delete a page and then create another page in its place. Just change the title and body of the original page and move it to the desired location in the outline. This probably creates less junk in the Confluence database, too.

I think we might be creating our own problems here :- )

Hi Bote,

Moving page is a bit more powerful than reorder but it also allow one to move a page within the same space, it's explained in detail here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONF52/Moving+a+Page <https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONF52/Moving+a+Page>

So yes and no, we need move page to work correctly, re-order give me the same outcome as moving a page. Please give it a go, try to move "Reporting bugs" under "Community", and let's see if this works for you. From my side, it seems to move without error but as soon as it refresh it goes back where it was :/

I really think it's a bug or a permission issue...

To answer your second question, last week I suggested the following:

Community + +----> Contributing (main page on contribute code/docs) | + | +-----> Reporting Bugs | | + | | +-----> Report issue checklist | | | +-----> Docs Team | | + | | +-----> all pages under Docs Team... | + | +-----> Bounty | | + | | +-----> Bounty Completed | | | +-----> Using Git (merge Installing Git / Tips for using Git pages) | +----> MailingList | +----> IRC | +----> ClueCon Weekly Conference call | +----> ClueCon

The goal was to regroup meaningful pages together rather than having too many links on the left menu or pages accessible from confusing area

I also agree that pages should have useful content, and IRC page is not a wasted page and it's actually similar to the page we had previously https://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/IRC <https://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/IRC> Now in other hand the community page is very similar to the module page (https://confluence.freeswitch.org/display/FREESWITCH/Modules <https://confluence.freeswitch.org/display/FREESWITCH/Modules> ) it points the reader to the right direction if they don't know yet what they are looking for.

I think a good community page is important and it has a very big value for peoples willing to get in touch with the community, knowing about events and contribute to the project. We should look at how other take advantage of it : https://www.openstack.org/community/ <https://www.openstack.org/community/> & http://www.docker.com/community/ <http://www.docker.com/community/> before rejecting the idea :)

Please keep in mind I know how to move and reorder and have done so many times since I spent a lot of time studying Confluence doc. The problem is Confluence does not always work as it should as in this case. Mario G

Thanks!

Bote

I would also agree, what annoy me is only the fact that I cannot move `some` pages. As a workaround, I could delete the content and mark the page with tag 'to-delete' and then copy the content on the new page.

Deletion of pages is still restricted...

Bote/Brian, is this something we want to enable for anyone that has edit perms or do we just want to tag them for deletion, then we can go thru at one time and have an admin delete them. This will ensure that someone with edit perms doesn¹t do anything that¹s a major pain to recover (no matter if they did it purposely or accidentally)

I'm troubled by those 4 pages: -https://confluence.freeswitch.org/display/FREESWITCH/Community <https://confluence.freeswitch.org/display/FREESWITCH/Community> -https://confluence.freeswitch.org/display/FREESWITCH/Contributing <https://confluence.freeswitch.org/display/FREESWITCH/Contributing> -https://confluence.freeswitch.org/display/FREESWITCH/Developers <https://confluence.freeswitch.org/display/FREESWITCH/Developers> -https://confluence.freeswitch.org/display/FREESWITCH/Reporting+Bugs <https://confluence.freeswitch.org/display/FREESWITCH/Reporting+Bugs>

especially by their current position in Confluence.

I `personally` would like to see the following in the pagetree:

Community + +----> Contributing (main page on contribute code/docs) | + | +-----> Reporting Bugs | | + | | +-----> Report issue checklist | | | +-----> Docs Team | | + | | +-----> all pages under Docs Team... | + | +-----> Bounty | | + | | +-----> Bounty list | | +-----> Bounty Completed | | | +-----> Using Git (merge Installing Git / Tips for using Git pages) | +----> MailingList | +----> IRC | +----> ClueCon Weekly Conference call | +----> ClueCon (new page to present Cluecon)

Opinions / feedback / thoughts?

So you guys know what happened, Atlassian sees the need for 2 different places to put access controls...

There is one place where you give people read/write access to the different bits of Confluence, and EVEN if they have full read/write access there, if they don’t have the “Can Use” (Confluence) Perm in a totally different location you cant even login... Who comes up with this stuff....

Hey Adolphe, Areski, can you give it another attempt and report back?

If you can not login, please remove and cookies you might have that have either crowd or freeswitch in the string identifying the cookie.

thanks

There is some pages that I cannot move, but I don't get any error message on Confluence... and with some it works :/ https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONF52/Moving+a+Page

Maybe it's a permission issue, I realize I cannot delete pages anymore.

Any hints?
