Yes, of course. But it is not enough for me to view a variety of pages to check them for sanity. Other browsers and other operating systems might present the page differently than what I see here. People will freak out if I make a change that looks OK for me, but others might not see the same thing that I do. That's the tricky part of CSS and why we should keep the changes small and simple. The Confluence help text has many warnings so I want to proceed with caution.
I would like to coordinate with you, Mario, and any others who have many different browsers and operating systems available to get everybody on irc at one time. After I am ready to test a change I will announce it on the irc channel and ask everybody to view a number of pages to see if they look sane. If not, I can roll it back immediately.
This will not be today, I will let you know.

or just make a backup and roll back if needed :)

This is the introductory help text that worries me:
"You can customize the look and feel of Confluence by editing the global
stylesheet. This will also _overwrite all styles defined in custom global
themes_.
Please note that the custom global stylesheet will not be applied to spaces
that define their own custom stylesheet or are using a theme."
Knowing how obtuse Confluence can be I want to research this to get it
right so I don't wipe out the style sheet for the entire site, although I see a
change I made a few months ago to make text wrap inside the code snippet
macros and it didn't seem to affect everything else in Confluence. I just don't
trust it any farther than I can throw it.
Since today is already spoken for I won't be able to mess with this right
away. The Confluence user help forums can often provide a wealth of
information so that's where I will start.

Monospace is completely fine -- probably it makes sense to make the
default font one size point smaller.
I just want a readable document, as it's not a terminal screen and not
a Emacs window (I actually use Emacs, but with white background and
syntax hiliting turned off :-)
Also it would be cool to have it printer-friendly, although it's
ridiculous to print those pages out :)

I don’t know what fonts we have available.
Plus, each operating system and browser family has its own different

Confluence limits what we can do, so don’t get your hopes too high. It’s
a
blunt instrument.

Another possibility to provide better reading is to use a thicker font
without serifs for the white letters. Keep in mind that on terminal
sessions
the letters are typically monospaced. Below are what it looks like now
and a
a couple of samples to demonstrate, I kept the point since the same
(14)
but
notice how they still take the same space. I wrote many computer
books
for
classes and had a lot of experience testing fonts and found non-serif
best
for commands/etc.
