[Freeswitch-dev] Production ready?
What's the ETA for a production ready version of freeswitch? Why isn't it considered production ready now? Thnxx __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
There is no real ETA, as we are are currently driving our milestones according to features implemented and not according to strict dates. We still have a number of features to design and implement, least of all the concept of users. We feel it is much more important that we design things properly so that we avoid spaghetti code and a series of bandaids/plasters/whatever you call them trying to heal a wound that requires stitches. If you would like to help out and test what we already have in the system, please do so by all means. The more bugs we can find and kill early on, the less we will be banging our heads over later on. If your system does not require full authentication, especially for inbound calls, then it is possible that you might be able to use freeswitch in a production environment. If you want more information, please let us know in more specific terms what it is that you would like to do with it, and we can answer that question more effectively. Best way is to to play with it mate. There's a list of to-do's and just like any other piece of software there's bugs to find and squash. Join the #freeswitch channel and join in matey. :-) On 05/09/06, julian howard <julianhwrd@yahoo.com> wrote:

Good news then, I believe somebody is currently working on a PHP interpreter embedded in the switch. Yossi Neiman Cartis Solutions, Inc. - http://www.cartissolutions.com julian howard wrote:

PHP is a welcome addition, however the end-goal should be that using BSF "bean shell language" one can use ANY SCRIPTING language one is good at. Ruby or JavaScript The JavaScript language itself is standardized by Standard ECMA-262 /ECMAScript: A general purpose, cross-platform programming language/. Rhino 1.5 implements JavaScript 1.5, which conforms to Edition 3 of the Standard. The Standard may be downloaded <http://www.ecma-international.org/publications/standards/Ecma-262.htm> or obtained by mail from ECMA, 114 Rue du Rhône, CH1204 Geneva, Switzerland. Rhino 1.6 also implements ECMA-357 /ECMAScript for XML (E4X)/. See the specification <http://www.ecma-international.org/publications/standards/Ecma-357.htm> for more information on the standard, and Rhino version 1.6R1 <http://www.mozilla.org/rhino/rhino16R1.html#E4X> for details on the implementation in Rhino. In addition, Rhino has implemented JavaAdapters, which allows JavaScript to implement any Java interface or extend any Java class with a JavaScript object. See the enum.js example for more information. -E Yossi Neiman wrote:

To use BSF you have to integrate freeswitch with java, as an external process sure why not, maybe build freeswitch to be a node in mobicents even, but very bad idea to integrate it right into freeswitch the way javascript or perl is right now. Using SWIG, the way it is now, is definitely the right way. Even using JNI will have a serious performance inpact. On 9/6/06, Amon Ghupta <aghupta@gmail.com> wrote:

I haven't checked whether FreeSWITCH uses Unix signals for anything, but if it does I would strongly recommend against using the JVM in the same process. The JVM uses signals for garbage collection and it causes all kinds of problems if you need to rely on them for some other functionality. I did this for Asterisk and after major suffering (JNI is an abomination and the JVM is very picky when it comes to shared libraries) I had to reimplement everything with the JVM in another process and connecting Asterisk to it via a socket. I would rather do this via socket in the first place ;) /b On Sep 6, 2006, at 6:26 PM, Juan Jose Comellas wrote:
