I looked at that and it includes a diff, and a bunch of other stuff that makesi t quite big. This would only be who, when and the commit message. It would also be a digest instead of one email per commit. So I am ready to go with it, just dont know if its really wanted.
I would actually have time to read that. :) Trying to read all of the posts to svn-commit got overwhelming, so I un-subbed. On another project there's a daily summary of the last day's commit logs and affected files. It's very helpful and I would at least get some benefit from it. Once a day posted to the -dev list is my vote. -Chris -- \\\|||/// \ Chris Parker - Segmentation Fault ( core dumped ) \ ~ ~ / \ | @ @ | \ http://www.segv.org | cparker@segv.org oOo (_) oOo \ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ # OS's are nothing more than device drivers! # _______________________________________________ Freeswitch-dev mailing list Freeswitch-dev@lists.freeswitch.org http://lists.freeswitch.org/mailman/listinfo/freeswitch-dev UNSUBSCRIBE:http://lists.freeswitch.org/mailman/options/freeswitch-dev http://www.freeswitch.org __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Ok, I would like to hear from anyone who objects to a single message per day recounting a summary of the days SVN commits. The email would look like below. If you object, please state why. If there arent any objects by tomorrow I will go ahead and start it up. For this to be useful it will also require better than 'tweaks' as a svn commit, something I am guilty of, but we have to somehow make the messages more meaningful for people glancing to see what was done - since often a lot can happen in a single day. Long commit messages will be done in their entirety, so some entries can be quite long - I dont even try to truncate after so many characters or anything, just take it as it is. Does anyone object to these daily svn log digests just going to the dev list? A cron job can probably do this quite easily. On 10/17/07, Trixter aka Bret McDanel <trixter@0xdecafbad.com> wrote:

Because the information is different. The freeswitch-trunk list has caused mail client problems when you get a diff of the sofia merge that recently happened. As has been said on this list earlier in the thread reading all the diffs, and everything else its a bit of a bother so people have unsubscribed. If individual emails are too large, I am going to go out on a limb and say that a digest of all of those 'too large' emails in one giant package probably wouldnt even be delivered at most sites excedding max message sizes, for those that do allow it, you certainly dont want to download that on a mobile device with limited bandwidth, and if you did reading it would be a chore beyond other chores. What was being suggested was a summary of the SVN commits, only the base information, so that people could follow development instead of being overwhelmed and unsubscribing. -- Trixter http://www.0xdecafbad.com Bret McDanel Belfast +44 28 9099 6461 US +1 516 687 5200 http://www.trxtel.com the phone company that pays you!
What was being suggested was a summary of the SVN commits, only the base information, so that people could follow development instead of being overwhelmed and unsubscribing. I think that this makes sense. I like to hop on the website and see who's committed what to the SVN repo recently, but it don't sift through the diffs, I just look at the programmer's summary. Having a digest delivered to my FreeSWITCH folder in Outlook would be very convenient to me and I would probably do a better job of keeping up with the latest commits. -MC
The fisheye rss feed can accomplish this with ease. /b On Oct 18, 2007, at 2:30 PM, Michael Collins wrote:

My bad. I guess I'm getting too old for all of your youthful technology! (I'm 37.) I haven't really played with RSS yet, mostly because I don't have any specific sites that I'm interested in at this point, although I guess I just found one! Bret, is there anything that the SVN digest can do that the fisheye RSS feed cannot do? Are there advantages to an SVN digest that we might not be aware of? Just checking. I don't want you to spend time creating a new gizmo when there's an existing one that does the same thing... unless, of course, you want to create a new gizmo! I pull it from the RSS feed, what it does is put it in email form instead of RSS form for those that dont want an RSS reader. It also redacts the information a bit, for example the RSS feed has over 200 entries, it contains a list of the files that were modified (I dont include that mostly for space reasons) and what not. I am seeing objections, although so far I think they are just from bkw and mikej over having that information here. So I will wait and see if a consensus can be obtained before sending out 1 email per day for this. The whole point I asked prior to doing it was to ensure that people wouldnt be upset over offering it here as well. -- Trixter http://www.0xdecafbad.com Bret McDanel Belfast +44 28 9099 6461 US +1 516 687 5200 http://www.trxtel.com the phone company that pays you!

I already have, was just waiting to run it before getting a consensus :) Why I have been asking for people who dont want it to speak up since a few that said they would like it already have voiced that side of it. It will filter so that it will only post new things and not everything, so each day will be the last 24 hours of commits. -- Trixter http://www.0xdecafbad.com Bret McDanel Belfast +44 28 9099 6461 US +1 516 687 5200 http://www.trxtel.com the phone company that pays you!

Yeah, that's a good idea.
