sorry for confusing about gateways, its my bad, I got it completely wrong. Between this is what I am talking about the wikiPBX GUI for freeswitch

Is there anyway that an external application can talk to freeswitch to accomplish the above mentioned tasks.

About adding gateways, I don't know what you mean about configuring them themselves. I am adding gateways in the sip_profiles directory.
